Tales From The Undergrowth @ WORDSTORM NT

Tales from the Undergrowth @ WORDSTORM NT  > Thursday the 13th of May, 2010

'Tales from the Undergrowth' is a night of three book launches by authors from the independent publisher and art collective Undergrowth as part of the NT Writer's Festival WORDSTORM NT 2010. The night will feature readings and performances to launch three books by Undergrowth authors, 'Portals' by Tim Parish, 'The Rooftop Sutras' by Levin Diatschenko and 'Mercury' by performance poet Si.

Tim Parish is a Darwin born writer, filmmaker and visual artist. He is the co-editor and art director of Undergrowth .org an independent publisher and online magazine. He has presented work and spoken at numerous arts and literary festivals including NT Writers Festival, Next Wave Festival, National Young Writers Festival, Straight Out of Brisbane and Burning Man Festival (US).
His writing have been included in numerous zines, magazines and anthologies including Chain Reaction, Green Magazine and Herding Kites, the best writing from the National Young Writers Festival first ten years published by Affirm Press.

After publishing numerous zines over the years, Tim's first solo book 'Portals' is a personal journey through geographic/political and metaphysical landscapes collecting short stories, poetry and journalism from the online travel blog project 'Nomadology'  over the course of five years.

Tim currently lives and works in Darwin.

Levin A. Diatschenko  published his first novel (The Man Who Never Sleeps) in 2004, with financial aid from others. After initially driving across the country promoting and selling the book himself, Levin was taken up by a major distributor. The novel was thus sold Australia wide. He painted and designed the front cover of the book, and he illustrated the E-book version of the novel. This can be viewed on www.Undergrowth.org

Levin’s second book was Meta-Detective, an illustrated novella that came out in 2009. For the book launch, Levin performed the first chapter as a ‘live radio play’ with a band of nine members supporting him. This was done in the manner of old time radio’s Philip Marlow and Sam Spade detective shows. The book launch took place at the Happy Yess, National Young Writer’s Festival (Newcastle) and Off The Page. It is still being sold in various shops around the country, and on www.levindaitschenko.com

Levin's third book 'The Rooftop Sutras' is an anthology of short fiction which will be launched at Wordstorm NT at the Tales of the Undergrowth event.

SI is a poet, performer and events organiser based in Preston, Melbourne. He regularly performs in various cabarets and festivals around Australia. He has received the Victorian Poetry Slam Championship for his poem This City Speaks to Me.
Si's first book of verse, Mercury, published by Undergrowth in 2009, toured to the This Is Not Art festival in Newcastle, the Emerging Writers Festival Melbourne, and was launched at the Thornbury Theatre where it promptly sold it’s initial print run before the end of the night.

Si is also the director of The Bohemian Masquerade Ball since April 2007. Held twice annually, it has become the vanguard of the Melbourne underground music scene. Renowned for its outrageous carnivalesque overtones, the Boho Ball oscillates between the debonair and the debauched and boasts near one thousand persons in attendance.

In 2010, Si is working on his second book, an anthology called SMUT and is currently the writer for ‘This City Speaks to Me’, an anthropological photographic book which focuses on Melbourne’s warehouse communities and the independent arts scenes.
